I know that if you don’t use your knowledge it will fade - so I’ve decided to start a business!
Not a real one, an entirely fictitious one with staff and a website. Why would I want to do this? I gained the knowledge to do many of these things during my HNC and HND, and in order to retain the skills I need practice and there will always be a need for people to add staff to the directory and reset passwords.
So, I will need to create a server, several staff members, host PC’s connected to the domain, a web server and possibly a firewall to protect it all from bad people outside....
In order to do all of this I will use a Dell PowerEdge R710 server running ESXI, but since I don’t want to have that running full time I’ll create virtual machines on my laptop, export them and (hopefully) make it all work as planned.....
I'll keep updating this with my progress, issues and links to useful resources I find. It should end up something like this:
One of the biggest recent developments has been the rise of Containerisation, whether it is with Docker or Kubernates.
It wasn't really more than touched on by any of my modules at College or University, probably as a combination of Covid and Education being
more focused on what is relevant when the course was written and the industry being so fast moving.
I've started with Docker Desktop as that seems to be the most friendly to newcomers, and am currently running a small selection of containers to help me learn more.
Pi-Hole for ad blocking, Heimdall for a landing page, audiobookshelf for audiobooks, and a webserver for testing.
The things I am currently working on in whatever spare time I can find. Anything currently related to my degree course will not be on this site until it is officially graded.
A list of my current qualifications, with links to the relevant authority and where possible a link to a full course description
Links to everywhere else on the internet I have a presence. Although this is a professional site it also links to my personal accounts on some sites.
